eila’s recent work is a collection of large-scale abstract paintings with their genesis in the bushfires and the global pandemic of 2020.
It began with the title painting in January 2020, referencing Herman Melville’s 'Bartleby, the Scrivener' (1853) and Bartleby’s recurring refrain 'I would prefer not to', linking this to the volunteer firefighter from Cabargo’s attempted refusal of Scott Morrison’s handshake.
